Our Work
We support housing stability through no-cost critical home repair services to Portland area’s low-income homeowners
Rebuilding Day
Rebuilding Days are a city-wide revitalization effort that engages volunteers and companies in Portland to provide repairs for homeowners who cannot do the work themselves. Repairs differ from house to house, but often include carpentry, plumbing, weatherization, debris removal, and more.
Corporate Sponsors get a hands-on team-building experience for a group of employees and their family members to work together on a home or nonprofit rebuilding project – engaging their community and making a difference they can see!
After 34 years of bringing neighbors together, low-income Portland-area homeowners are now living and working in safer, healthier, and brighter homes! Nail by nail and block by block, volunteers become part of a community revitalization movement that is creating safe and healthy homes for some of Portland’s most vulnerable communities.
Critical Repairs
We make year-round repairs and modifications focused on increasing the health and safety of the homes of low-income homeowners in Portland. These projects include replacing roofs and HVAC systems, and accessibility modifications such as installing grab bars, tall toilets, and handrails. They can also involve repairing and rebuilding exterior stairways, minor electrical and plumbing work. Our home repair services allow older adults to age in place, increases the mobility and independence of people with disabilities, and provides assurance to adult children that their parents are living in safe and healthy homes.
The Safe & Healthy Repair Program empowers long-time residents to remain in their communities as they age. While neighbors served benefit from increased home safety, research has also shown the immense community-wide value of this work as these long-time residents are empowered to age in place.
